Even though the Oscar nominations have been announced, there are still major nominations to come, as BAFTA are set to announce their nominees for this year’s British Academy Film Awards. With the longlists already out, it seems straightforward to predict who is getting nominated. But with BAFTA, you never know, as they love to surprise us with their picks, especially favouring British films that haven’t received any awards love across the pond. Recent shocks have included Viola Davis and Carey Mulligan missing Best Actress nominations for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Promising Young Woman, respectively, in favour of Alfre Woodard (Clemency), Radha Blank (The Fourty Year Old Version), and recent first time Oscar nominee for Sinners, Wunmi Mosaku (His House); eventual Oscar Best Picture winner CODA not even getting nominated for Best Film; and All Quiet on the Western Front turning its nomination leading tally of 14 into 7 wins, while Oscar sweeper Everything Everywhere All at Once came home with just 1 win (6 less than it received from AMPAS). While these nominations won’t give us clues for the Oscar race this year, it is still exciting to see who BAFTA go for. Here are our predictions:
